MODA uses escrow-based payments between brands and creators. Refund eligibility depends on campaign status and whether creator work has begun.
Overview
When a brand funds a paid campaign on MODA, the payment is held in escrow while the creator produces deliverables inside the workroom. Refunds are available only in defined circumstances. This policy describes when a brand may request a refund, how refund amounts are calculated, and what happens after work begins or after payment is released.
This policy works alongside the Brand Terms, Creator Terms, and Platform Rules. If anything here conflicts with those documents on refund-specific questions, this Refund Policy controls refund eligibility and amounts.
Pre-work refund eligibility
A brand may request a refund through MODA when all of the following are true:
- The campaign has been funded through MODA.
- No deliverables have been submitted by the creator.
- No payout has been released to the creator.
- No active dispute is in progress on the campaign.
In the platform, the first deliverable submission marks the point at which work has begun. Before that point, eligible brands may cancel the campaign and request a refund from the workroom.
Refund amounts
When a pre-work refund is approved, MODA submits a refund to the payment processor for:
Brand payment minus non-refundable Stripe processing fees.
MODA does not retain a platform fee for approved pre-work cancellations.
Stripe processing fees are charged by Stripe and are not returned to MODA when a payment is refunded. As a result, Stripe processing fees are non-refundable and are deducted from the amount returned to the brand.
Refund amounts are calculated from the original brand charge and the actual Stripe processing fee recorded for that payment — not from an estimated percentage.
After work begins
Once a creator has submitted deliverables to the workroom, automatic or self-service refunds are no longer available through MODA.
Refund questions at this stage become dispute matters. MODA may review workroom evidence — including submitted deliverables, the written campaign brief, workroom messages, and platform audit records — and determine the appropriate outcome.
Disputes are raised inside the workroom. For the broader dispute framework, see the Brand Terms and Platform Rules.
After payment release
Once payment has been released to the creator, refunds are generally unavailable through MODA's self-service or standard refund flows.
Disputes may still be reviewed according to platform policies where applicable. Card-network chargebacks initiated with a card issuer are separate processes handled under Stripe's dispute mechanics and are not the same as a MODA workroom dispute.
Chargebacks
Brands should use MODA's in-platform dispute process to raise quality or delivery concerns before initiating a chargeback with their card issuer.
Abuse of chargebacks — including filing chargebacks against released, approved deliverables in bad faith — may violate MODA's Platform Rules and may result in account restrictions or other enforcement action.
Processing times
Approved refunds are submitted to the payment processor promptly, but final posting times depend on banks and card issuers. MODA does not control how long a refunded amount takes to appear on a brand's statement.
